Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement
At oneness with God
Today we prepared and celebrated Yom Kippur. This is the day the worshippers would stand before Almighty God and confess his mistakes and admits that he has sinned.
Just before the meal started the father blesses each member of the family. We have truly cherished this special time that we have shared together as a family. This is the second time that the feast began with blessing the children and it is just awesome to see how the kids light up as their father is giving them a wonderful blessing.
After the blessing we enjoyed a meal together. It was fun to have Grammie and Pop join us for this feast. We enjoy trying some of the traditional recipes.
Callah Bread - made into rolls |
Kreplach - Pockets of dough filled with meat |
In Jewish history meat symbolizes the stern judgement of God, while the dough symbolizes the mercy which accompanied God's justice. It is still true that "mercy triumphs over judgment" - James 2:13
Golden Yoich - chicken soup |
After the meal we will be fasting for 24 hours. With the kids to be careful they will be having fruit juice and water. This time will be used for prayer. This is not to bring notice to ourselves, but to be able to spend time with the Lord. The kids are not sure that they will be able to do the fast. We will encourage them to pray and if they seem to get to a point that they need more than the juice then we will have them eat some vegetables and fruit.
Tomorrow we will enjoy a "Break-the-Fast" meal together at sundown. The meal is to be light to break the fast.
