Preparation for the Sabbath Feast

We have been preparing all day for the start of our Sabbath Feast.  We cleaned house and the boys took care of the lawn so that we don't have work to do tomorrow.

So.... we have set the table with nice plates silverware and glasses, made the oil candle for the centerpiece, made Callah (braided bread), made Golden Yoich (Chicken Soup), rice, and candlestick salad.  Have the grape juice ready, have the bowl for hand washing, and candles ready.  We have started to put together the Cholent (a roast) for tomorrow.

Lots to do to prepare and then lots of blessings and prayers to follow.  Looking forward to celebrating this time with the kids.  They have really enjoyed preparing for tonight.  The braided bread is the first yeast bread that I have ever made.  We were using a hand mixer that really started to smell horrible, like I was burning it up, so we had to finish mixing by hand.  Guess they wouldn't have had a mixture back then anyway.

And just so that you all know the bread looks like it turned out.  We will see when we break into it with dinner.

Since this time is to celebrate rest and time with family I will not be posting further information about the Feast until Sunday.

Thank you Lord for this prepared time for us just to spend time as a family....what a blessing.  I wish that I could share everything about the feast and traditions, but that would be a seriously long post! :)

  1. We had some neighbors in Phoenix who were Messianic Jews. They invited us for their Friday night dinner one night and we loved it. Have a great time enjoying the family.
