Day Two....

Today is our hardest day on the paper route, but all went well and praise the Lord we were done and home way before it started to rain!!

Let's talk about spelling.  I am really enjoying the Spelling that I am using...such a simple approach.  Each lesson is "rule" and they have 15 words they are tested on each day.  They have to complete that same lesson until they have received 100% 2 days in a row.  That is the key...if they get all right and then the next day miss one then they start back and still has to get it all right 2 more times.  I believe that this concept is really simple, but I think that the repetition is going to really help all my kids with their spelling.  This week the lesson is i before e except after c and then there are those exceptions.  One of the fun sayings for the exception is weird is just too weird to follow the rule; seize, seized and seizure need to be seized and taken to jail for not following the rule.  This gives the kids something to think about when they are trying spell the word....and you know that those funny little sayings stay with you much longer than just wrote memory.

We are working on preparing for our Sabbath meal on Friday.  The kids are very excited about that.  Today we picked out a special towel to cover the callah bread.  We are going to be making our own oil candle later this week....still on a mission to find the wick for the candle.  Headed to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and hope to have success there.  We are all excited to see if we can follow the directions and that it actually works.

Today Nattalie had Mandolin lessons and Johnathan had youth worship band practice.  Nattalie is sounding great on her Mandolin and Johnathan did such an awesome job at practice.  What a gift the Lord has given them.  Daniel has been asking to start to take electric guitar lessons.  John and I are not sure if this is the best thing....we are still praying about that.

Tomorrow will be a challenge because we will head to church with John in the morning and we will complete school at church.  The kids did all work ahead with their Math today so that they don't have to do Math tomorrow.  We did school at church some last year and it went well, but like I mentioned it was a computer based program.  So I will have to be more disciplined because I will need to give them 100% of my attention so that I am able to teach them the lessons for the week.  Praying that I am focused and don't get busy with different things at church.

Looking forward to watching the children's musical tomorrow night with the kids as we celebrate how well they did on Sunday morning.

Goodnight all....hope to post more tomorrow.

Busy School Day!

Wow....we were are still tired from all the fun that we had yesterday!

Today we started school full time.  The kids really enjoyed history today.  Science was just an introduction, but we will be in full force soon.  This year is so much different then last year.  We used Switched on Schoolhouse last year which was 100% computer based program.  This year we are using My Father's World for Bible, History and Science; Excellence in Writing for English; Excellence in Spelling for....you guessed it spelling; Switched on Schoolhouse for Math (for Daniel and Nattalie since we had it from last year for their grade) and Teaching Textbooks for Johnathan; and of course they are all working hard on music!

Today it was such a blessing to start with Bible reading as our first lesson for the day...opening the Word of God to begin our studies was so refreshing.

Having to do the teaching myself is taking more of my time, but I know that it will be time well spent!

We did get Johnathan's computer back tonight so he did his Math lesson this evening.....wow, just love the flexibility of homeschool!!  By the way, one thing that I really like about Teaching Textbooks already is that you just insert the cd-rom and the lessons pop right up.  There is no donwloading to program to your computer like with Switched on Schoolhouse.  I really like this because if a computer goes down they are still able to do lessons on any computer.  So, if all goes well in 2 more years we will be using Teaching Textbooks totally.

Great first day!!

Summer Musical and Dirting Biking

Well, we made great use of the last day before we are back into the full schedule of school tomorrow.  What an awesome family day!  We started out with church.....the kids summer musical, "Sermon on the Mound".  Nattalie and Daniel did an awesome job....along with all the other kids.  This was the first year that Johnathan was not a part of the musical, missed him being in it, but I know he's growing up :)

Enjoyed a potluck after church....what an awesome turn out we had this time.  Praise the Lord.

Then off to the Laxton's.  The boys got to dirt bike from 1:30 to sundown...maybe even a little past sundown.  Daniel was so excited because the McCarl family was able to join us.  Daniel and Dominic shared time on the 110 dirt bike while Johnathan rode non stop on the 125.  Nattalie and I had some fun on the 4-wheeler.  By the end of the day Nattalie was driving the 4-wheeler by herself!  All the kids did great...and of course had a good time.  After all bikes were put away it was finally time to eat.  The kids were so exhausted that they almost fell asleep before the hot dogs were ready.  Thank you Laxton's for the invitation for the boys to get in some dirt bike time.  And McCarl family thank you so much for joining us for part of the day.

Got home and unloaded the truck and before I was even done getting things put away all three kids were kissing me goodnight....they were tired!! So amazing we didn't even have to ask them to go to bed!  :)

Looking forward to school in the morning...and so are the kids!

Blog for the Family

I have finally taken the time to set up a blog for the family.  Hopefully this will help me to share what is going on with the family and how our homeschool adventure is going.

Speaking of homeschool we started back on Monday this week with just a few different things and we will be back in full force on the 30th.  The kids are really excited about our History and Science this year.  During the first week we will be doing a Sabbath Feast.  The kids are very excited about this...to be honest John and I are excited about the Biblical Feasts that will be celebrating throughout the school year!

What a blessing the Lord has given us with the opportunity to homeschool our children.  At times John and I talk about how nice it would have been to be able to start from the beginning, but we are grateful that the Lord has made it possible now for us.

So as we start our second year of homeschool we will take you on the journey with us.  If you have questions about post a comment and we will try to answer to the best of our ability.
